Yet another great day! It started off with a scrumptious breakfast at the Secret Gardens – eggs and homemade peanut butter and banana French toast (the food here has been amazing!) – and then Elisha, the American owner, took us on fantastic walk past small farms with gorgeous scenery. We were sad to leave this place, but by 11 am, it was time to move on.
Luckily, our next destination was not too shabby. The Hotel Matisses near the town of Santa Rosa de Cabal is very nice. It is close to the famous termales (hot springs) and the kids loved all of the hotel’s amenities – the pool, jacuzi, sauna and, especially the trampoline. The kids and I spent a very relaxing afternoon just enjoying hanging out at the hotel.
The hotel doesn’t serve food other than breakfast so we headed off for some local grub. Santa Rosa is known for its sausages so we sampled some along with the usual Colombian fare – trout, grilled chicken and meat, potatoes, soups. I really miss vegetables when we get off the gringo trail. (There is actually not much of a gringo trail in Colombia, one of the reasons I love traveling here. I always feel like a pioneer and an explorer. I do however miss gringo food, especially vegetables and salads.)
